Summer camps for children of incarcerated parents provide a safe, healthy, trauma-informed environment where they can just relax and enjoy being a kid. It is also a unique opportunity to bond with other kids that are facing similar challenges. Group therapy can be a significant turning point in healing as they share, listen and feel the similar struggles. Each camp is unique, but costs can be covered by specialized programs, so they can have a fun-filled experience with no burden to the parents. For more specific details on a specific camp, one would need to inquire individually. Quite a few camps, only for youth with an incarcerated parent exist. Here are a few:
Camp Hope, just outside of Atlanta, is a beautiful resort that hosts numerous group camps all throughout the year. But one special week in the Summer 2026, Kidz2Leaders sponsors a free overnight summer camp for kids with an incarcerated parent. Thoughtout the week, the kids will participate in activities that help with identifying and building trusting relationships, contributing to your community, and embracing Christian values. It is an action packed week of fun-filled festivities while making significant progress with healing and overall well-being.

Project Avary is a holistic youth leadership organization that supports children ages 8-25 who have been impacted by parental incarceration, detainment, or deportation. They host transformative summer camps and year-round support retreats aimed at breaking the cycle of incarceration.

Angel Tree® Camp sponsored by Prison Fellowship welcomes campers nationwide that are impacted by parental incarceration. For those previously participating in Angel Tree Christmas, you already have a special seat reserved. Any others age 5-18, sign up to experience the outdoors for little-or-no cost, either here or at our partner camps across the country. If interested in a leadership role, trauma-informed training is part of the initiative and a perk for the position, and it is a nice addition to a resume.
